UPDATE!  9/6/2016

Bear, a 7 1/2 year old boy in TN whose previous owner passed away so he ended up in a shelter. He is HW+ so he spent a short time with great fosters in TN -- Katie and Tom Whitfield -- while we made arrangements for him to travel to SC.  He is now here and getting settled and learning his place in the pyr pack.  Along with starting his heartworm treatment plan, he is also severely emaciated and we will be working on a special diet and calorie plan to get some much needed weight on him and also help him build some confidence.

UPDATE!  12/18/16 -- Bear is now up to 94 pounds and a very happy boy.  Always smiling and playing with his BFF, Gus.  They are attached at the hip!   He has developed a great voice that sounds like a gruff older guy and he actually comes when you call him.  He has wonderful manners and is also a great bed warmer.  He has also become fast friends with our newest pocket pyr, Babe.

UPDATE 3/30/17 -- This is Beau.  He is our first Cajun senior!!  He came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He is around 6 years old or so (best guess since he was a stray) and is severely emaciated (only 79 lbs now and needs to be around 125 lbs) and Heartworm positive.  He is a real sweetie pie and loves every person he meets and fit right in with the pack here from the first minute he arrived.  All the fluffies just love him.  We will be getting him well and giving him a great home for him to live out his golden years.

May 21, 2016  AUSTIN IS HERE!! -- -- --   Thanks to all of you and your generosity, he is now a resident here.  Now we need continued support for him and our current residents so that we can pursue more seniors to join the pack here at the Haven.   He has Degenerative Myelopathy which is a progressive disease with no treatment or cure.  We keep him happy and comfortable and do everything we can to make sure he has more good days than bad ones.  One thing he really loves -- TO EAT!!!

Belvedere, our first senior pyr adoption.  He was a dream come true.  He was only with us a short time before losing him to Hemangiosarcoma but we cherished everyday and he inspired this mission.

UPDATE 3/30/17 -- Babe suffers from severe anxiety and some dementia.  She has gained the much needed weight and still loves playing with her pack members here at the Haven.   She is 12 years old and came from a kill shelter in Kentucky.   Because of being an owner surrender, we saved her at the last minute and she is a real doll.  We are working with her on blending with the rest of the Haven pack and helping her to gain some much needed weight.   Now that she is here, we can see that she was probably used as a breeder dog on a farm and when she was of no use anymore, they threw her away.

This is our newest addition to the Haven.  This is Buddy.  We picked him up on June 1, 2017 in Knoxville, TN from NGPR.  He is an older boy who is HW+ and also has a chronic dry eye condition that was never treated so he has very poor vision in one eye.  He is a real sweetheart and is fitting in very well with the gang here at the Haven.  He is severely emaciated but in the three weeks he has been here, he is putting on weight and eating well.   UPDATE:  9/4/17 -- This is Buddy now.  120 lbs of sweetness.

Our mission will be to provide senior and special needs pyrs with a loving and caring home where they will be allowed to live out their lives in a secure, nurturing environment.  We will provide residents with a comfortable home, secure yards to play and supervised time in fenced, grassy fields on our 4+ acres of property.  Healthcare and wellness screenings will be ongoing with veterinary specialists consulted when needed.  All pyrs will receive special diets, as necessary, and are fed high quality foods and treats.
Palmetto Pyr Haven will rely on donations, grants, and wish list gifts to accomplish our primary mission of providing quality care and love for our senior fluffies.

Please continue to share our mission with everyone.  Without you, none of this is possible and every donation, no matter how small, is HUGE for the big fluffies who need our help!!  We are forever grateful for the tremendous support we have received so far for our cause and look forward to sending many updates in the near future about our progress!!

Please send us messages with any suggestions, ideas, words of encouragement, suggestions for improvements, etc.  We welcome ALL correspondence as we begin this endeavor.

UPDATE 3/30/17 -- Austin is not doing very well these days.  He has a hospice vet that comes out to see him and he is on pain meds for management right now.

UPDATE:  5/3/17 -- Austin crossed over Rainbow Bridge today.  We are heartbroken to lose this big mountain of a boy and all of this pack is very upset.  We know he is no longer in pain and we can be thankful for that.  <3
